A Letter To Office of the Prime Minister for Federal Government of Somalia

Firstly, we would like to applaud your tireless efforts in your leadership, the fruitful aversion of the country from the brink of a conflict to a historical trajectory that will lead the nation in the direction of reconciliation, peace, and inclusive elections. We are at a critical crossroads, and you have thus far shown leadership with the right mindset, genuineness and authenticity to your commitments.

Secondly, as your government takes charge, we write to you about the fundamental civil, political, economic and social rights and urge that you take some key steps to help address current and longstanding problems.

Mr. Prime Minister, you are fully aware Somalia experienced close to three decades of instability; hence, the nation’s internal wounds are yet to heal fully. The southwest regions have had more than their share of adverse conflict implications resulting in increased vulnerability. Such vulnerability and the sense of alienation previously provided fertile ground for Al-Shabaab to exploit by recruiting those who harbored grievances and felt excluded from the political process. As traditional, political, and leaders from South West State regions, we want to make every effort at our disposal to ensure that the process is fair and that people have trust in its integrity.
