More than 95 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Somalia

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – The ministry of health said a total of 17,726 cases have been confirmed since mid-March when the country recorded its first case.

Of the new cases, 47 were female while 49 were male.

Some 59 people recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of successful recoveries to 8,663.

The ministry confirmed that Somali capital had recorded 21. Somaliland and Puntland each recorded 31 and 27 cases respectively.

Galmudug, Jubbaland and Southwest states have registered 13, 3 and 1 cases each respectively.

Mid this year, horn of Africa nation received its first shipment of 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the international COVAX initiative to ensure that low- and middle-income countries receive vaccines.

In June, Somalia rolled out doses of Sinopharm vaccine donated by China to boost the war against COVID-19 pandemic in the Horn of African nation.
