President Trump said Thursday that Minnesotans should “fight back” against Somali immigrants following previous attacks against the group.
“The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants. There is Violence, Murder, and Mayhem all over the State,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The people of Minnesota must fight back.”
He added that Minnesota’s residents were “abandoned” by the state government, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) was “an incompetent thief who doesn’t want to get involved.”
“[Walz] just wants to get out of town with as much as he can steal, and then, lead a quiet life,” Trump continued. “The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back! If you need, the Federal Government will come to your rescue.”
“Governor Tim Walz, and Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, must immediately ask for Federal help — and leave the rest to us,” he concluded.
The Somali community has been targeted by the Trump administration due to a massive pandemic-era fraud scheme that stole hundreds of millions from a federally funded nutrition program. As much as $1 billion is reported to have been stolen in separate plots.
Trump previously slammed the Somali community in 2025, referring to Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) as “garbage,” and that Somalia “stinks.”
The Trump administration ended temporary protected status (TPS) for Somali holders in January. Former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem said at the time that continuing TPS protections were “contrary to our national interests.”
Walz accused Trump in 2025 of “demonizing” Somali migrants in Minnesota.
“As far as demonizing our Somali community, maybe, he could help us on some things,” Walz said at the time. “Demonizing an entire community, folks who are in the professions, educators, artists, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, they bring the diversity and the energy to a place like Minnesota.”
According to World Population Review, Minnesota has the largest population of Somalis at 1.07 percent concentrated primarily in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Most of the population arrived in the U.S. as refugees after a civil war in Somalia throughout the 1990s
